Minimum Wage: Good Strategy – Adeyanju Commends NLC, TUC

Nigerian activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju has applauded the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC for the method they are employing to negotiate new minimum wage.

According to him, Nigerians are behind them.

Recall that organized labour embarked on an indefinite strike on Monday to protest the low wages for workers in the country.

Frowning at the current high cost of living in the country, organized labour demanded N494,000 as the new minimum wage as against the N30,000 workers are earning, but the Nigerian Government offered N60,000.

After Monday’s meeting between government representatives and organized labour, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, George Akume, disclosed that the Federal Government is committed to paying a minimum wage higher than N60,000.

The meeting between the representatives of the Nigerian Government and the organized labour resulted in the suspension of the industrial action on Tuesday.

Posting on X, Adeyanju wrote: “Nigerian workers to NLC & TUC. Well played organized Labour. Good strategy on the minimum wage issue.

“Nigerians are behind you, please don’t fold or disappoint them this time. Aluta continua.”
