‘How Buhari Rejected Calls To Drop My Wife As Nigeria’s Ambassador To US’
It has emerged that the appointment of Uzoma Emenike as the first woman to become Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States of America did not come easy as it was met with stiff opposition from several quarters.
The intrigues that followed the historic appointment was revealed Wednesday, by the husband of the immediate past Nigeria’s Ambassador to U.S, Ikechi Emenike, during the annual thanksgiving of his family at St. John’s Methodist Church, Umukabia Okpuala in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State.
Emenike, who was the 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, said that several people and interest groups did everything possible to dissuade then President Muhammadu Buhari to drop his wife, Dr. Uzoma, as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the U.S. “mainly because of her gender”.
He said Buhari rejected such calls and expressed confidence on his wife’s ability to deliver on the ambassadorial job.
