Davido, Wizkid didn’t bring Amapiano to Nigeria – May D
Singer Akinmayokun Awodumila aka May D has said neither Davido nor Wizkid is responsible for the importation of Amapiano music genre.
He stated he imported the distinct and unique sound which has blossomed into Africa’s biggest sound and a huge rival for Afrobeats.
He also claimed he possessed awards to prove his claim.
He noted he was among those who ‘started the Naija South Africa collaboration’ but people have willfully decided to give the credit to others, an act he condemned.
“Na me bring amapiano come naija, and I have awards to prove that! We started the naija South African collaboration! I don’t like saying shit like this but y’all like putting me under the box,” May D tweeted.
A number of artistes have been mentioned by their respective fans claiming they brought same into the country.
The debate became even more heated with Wizkid’s latest release, ‘Bad to Me’, a sensational Amapiano record which serves as his first release in two years.
Davido, on Wednesday took a swipe at DJ Maphorisa over his tweet that ascribed Amapiano’s success in Africa to Wizkid and Burna Boy.
